About Dr. Gilson

Hi, I’m Dr. Gilson

Licensed Psychologist

Welcome! I’m Dr. Gilson. I’m a clinical psychologist licensed to provide services in Michigan and Missouri. I’ve been a specialist in treating trauma-related issues for more than ten years, working with people diagnosed with PTSD, Operational Stress Injury, Military Sexual Trauma, Complex PTSD, and Dissociative disorders such as psychogenic seizures and Dissociative Identity Disorder.

This experience has helped me to understand how profoundly trauma can affect our lives and the ways in which we cope with stress. Regardless of whatever diagnostic label fits you best, my goal is to help you as an individual, by focusing on the goals that are important to you, using a variety of evidence-based techniques that are adapted to your specific needs. We’ll work as partners to determine what you’d like to accomplish and how best to achieve that, and check-in frequently to make sure you’re seeing the kind of results you’re looking for.

I’m very passionate about helping trauma survivors and partnering with people to not only leave the chaos behind but figure out what it means to have a life that is worth living. I know that therapy can be intimidating. Its going to take some time for you to get to know me and trust that I can help you. I’ve been told by previous clients that they find me calming, trustworthy, direct but supportive and that even though it isn’t easy, they are glad they’ve invested the time and effort to feel better. I truly feel honored by the trust that my clients put in me and my experience, and privileged to see people grow and change for the better.

I’m also a nerd. And that’s good news for you, as I spend a lot of time reading about therapy techniques, staying up to date on research, and attending trainings to learn new ways to treat trauma. This means you get the benefit of having access to the kind of treatments that research shows really works. Treatments for trauma-related issues truly work, and if you put in the effort, you’ll find that you notice the benefits rather quickly.

Seeking treatment is an important decision, and one that takes courage. I’m so glad you’re here, and I look forward to talking to you soon.
